Do you know your gut microbiota?

Conosci il
microbiota intestinale?

The gut microbiota is an ecosystem made up of billions of microorganisms — mostly bacteria, but also viruses, fungi, and protozoa — that coexist in harmony within the intestine, carrying out essential functions for our health. When in balance, the microbiota supports digestion, strengthens immune system, and protects the intestinal barrier. However, factors such as an unbalanced diet or excessive use of medications can disrupt it, causing digestive disorders, metabolic problems, and greater vulnerability to infections.

Probiotics and spores: allies for gut health

What are probiotics?

Probiotics are live microorganisms that play a key role in maintaining microbiota balance. When administered orally in adequate amounts (at least 1 billion live cells per day), they help strengthen the intestinal flora and promote the well-being of the entire organism.

And what about spores?

A spore is the form that certain bacteria adopt to survive in adverse conditions, such as extreme temperatures and acidic environments. Once conditions become favorable again, the spore returns to its active cellular state. Thanks to their natural resistance, bacterial spores successfully bypass the acidic environment of the stomach and reach the intestine alive. Once there, they "awaken" and actively work to regularize the intestinal flora. Administering probiotics in the form of spores represents an innovative and highly effective solution.

Causes and consequences of microbiota deficiencies

Causes

The gut microbiota can be "altered" due to several factors that disrupt the balance between "good" and harmful bacteria. These are the potential causes:
• Poor diet: diets too high in sugars, saturated fats, ultra-processed foods, excessive alcohol, and low fiber intake (fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains).
• Incorrect and/or prolonged use of certain medications: antibiotics also damage "good" bacteria, while anti-inflammatoriess and laxatives can have a negative impact.
• Stress and lack of sleep.
• Sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity.
• Pollution and toxic substances.
• Intestinal infections.
• Use of antibiotics.

Consequences

• Intestinal disorders and pathologies.
• Reduced immune defense: allergies, intolerances, chronic inflammation.
• Metabolic issues: weight gain and/or obesity, diabetes, cholesterol alterations.
• Sleep disorders.
